Top voted Soundtracks of all time

Classic FM's annual USER soundtrack poll brought in more of the same. While the top 100 changed drastically than years passed; adding such scores as James Newton Howard's King Kong, and Williams' Memoirs of a Geisha, it was the Lord of the Rings trilogy topping the list for the fifth consecutive time, with Zimmer's Gladiator once more placing second.

Here are the top 20, announced yesterday:

20. Wilde (Debbie Wiseman)
19. The Piano (Michael Nyman)
18. Pirates of the Carribean (Klaus Badelt)
17. Titanic (James Horner)
16. Pride & Prejudice (Dario Marianelli)
15. The Magnificent Seven (Elmer Bernstein)
14. Dangerous Moonlight (Richard Addinsell)
13. Harry Potter (John Williams)
12. Gone With
The Wind (Max Steiner)
11. The Mission (Ennio Morricone)
10. Jurassic Park (John Williams)
09. Saving Private Ryan (John Williams)
08. Dances With Wolves (John Barry)
07. Lawrence of Arabia (Maurice Jarre)
06. Out of Africa (John Barry/Mozart)
05. Star Wars (John Williams)
04. Schindler's List (John Williams)
03. Ladies in Lavender (Nigel Hess)
02. Gladiator (Hans Zimmer)
01. Lord of the Rings (Howard Shore)

Many were surprised to note that Klaus Badelt's Pirates of the Caribbean score was settled in at #18, even though many critics have bashed it; none more heartily than those at Filmtracks (see review). Nigel Hess' Ladies in Lavender also surprised many people, as it wasn't even ranked last year. Star Wars dropped a couple of places, and Schindler's List remained stable; giving John Williams a strong hold of eleven placings in the top 20. And while James Horner's Braveheart fell out of the top twenty this year, Saving Private Ryan moved up ten places to #9 (even as Titanic dropped ten; it was a bad year for Horner).

Here were last year's top 20.
